North Carolina Gets New
Adoption Web Page

The Children's Services Adoption Exchange and Automation Team is pleased to announce North Carolina's new adoption web page. The purpose of this page is to facilitate the placement of foster children in safe, nurturing permanent homes. The address of the new page is: http://www.state.nc.us/DHR/DSS/ChildrensServices/adoption.htm.

At least 500 foster children in North Carolina need an adoptive home at any given time. We are trying something new to help children find permanent families faster. The new system will make our children available nationwide. Prospective adoptive parents will be able to e-mail inquires over the Internet directly to North Carolina's Adoption Exchange and Automation Team. All inquires for a specific child will then be forwarded to the appropriate county department of social services. DSS social workers will be asked to notify Division staff of their responses to these inquires within 30 days.

Due to the large number of cases and inquires, the Division has implemented an adoption tracking system. The system tracks all adoption inquires and referrals to county departments of social services and private agencies. This system will help ensure that prospective adoptive families do not "get lost" in the process.
