Recipe
Exchange: Ca-Sau-Toes
Preparing a meal for your family can be pretty
tough some days. To make this task a little easier, we offer you "Ca-Sau-Toes,"
which was submitted to us by Joe Jordan, Jr., a foster parent from Durham
County, North Carolina. Joe advises, "this little meal can be a big
help if you're on a tight budget--it can be prepared for under five dollars."
And, he confides, kids love it!
Ca-Sau-Toes
- Shred and wash a medium cabbage
(red or green)
- Slice linked sausage and place in
skillet (I use about 1 lb. of Hillshire Farms)
- Peel & quarter three white potatoes
- Dice 1/2 medium onion and 1/2 green
pepper; add these to the sausages and potatoes
- Add 2 tablespoons of Crisco
- Cover and simmer 5 minutes over
low heat
- Add the cabbage and season to taste
(I use a little "Mrs. Dash")
- Continue heating until cabbage is
tender
- This will serve at least two adults
and six children: trust me!
