Youth Recognition Luncheons
Every spring, the North Carolina Division
of Social Services and Independent Living Resources, Inc., hold
luncheons to recognize the special achievements of North Carolina's
youth in foster care or group care. In different areas of the
state, foster youth 16 years of age and older gather to celebrate
what they have done and are trying to do. The programs include
a catered luncheon, award certificates, prizes, displays of youth
art, and testimonials to the resourcefulness of our youth.
These events are affirmative--they
send the message that everyone is important. Youth luncheons also
say to foster kids that their future is something within their
control, that success is a real possibility.
Each youth attendee may bring two guests.
Register by calling Nancy Carter or Bill Griffin at 800/820-0001.
Luncheon Dates
June 6, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Morganton,
North Carolina
June 7, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Smithfield,

Youth
Days Adolescent Conferences
Have you heard about Youth Days? These
free, one-day conferences are for North Carolina teens in foster
care, foster parents, and the people who work with them.
Held on the campus of a North Carolina
community college campus, these conferences provide a wide range
of information on independent living. They offer workshops, resource
fairs, information booths, and walking tours of nontraditional
classroom settings. Presenters are drawn from businesses, youth,
social workers, foster parents, former foster and group home residents,
military and education leaders, and other community representatives.
Lunch is provided, as are snacks, drinks,
door prizes, and certificates for participation. There is no fee
for attending this event.
Youth Days are offered by Independent
Living Resources and the North Carolina Division of Social Services.
