Meet the North Carolina Foster Parent Association's board of directors

Becky Burmester and her husband reside in Wake County. They have been foster parents for 16 years. Their experiences include fostering 68 children, primarily infants, in three states through four different agencies. They have recently decided to give fostering teens a try! This is Becky’s third year on the NCFPA board, serving as Secretary. Becky also heads the training/conference committee.
 
Earl (Gene) Boren was born in Kansas City. At the age of 5, Gene was placed in foster care. Over the following 12 ½ years he lived in 25 foster homes and six group homes. After a career in the Navy, he joined the Army as an administrative assistant. This is his first year on the board, where he serves as the Region 3 Vice-President. He and his wife live in Parkton.
 
LaDonna Caldwell is serving her first year on the Board. She lives in Charlotte and represents Region 1.
 
Mary Chandler lives in Fayetteville and has been fostering for about seven years. She currently has a 10-year-old daughter. An associate minister of her church, she also works with older adults. This is Mary’s first year on the board. She was elected Historian at the January meeting.

Kay Gillis and her husband live in Franklin County. They have been foster parents for almost three years and currently have three children in their family. Kay left a job in the computer industry to become a full-time Mom. She is working to establish a foster parent association for Franklin County. Kay is a first-time board member and is serving as the Vice-President of Region 2 and as chair of the communications committee.
 
Theresa Graves, Region 1, lives in Cabarrus County. This is her second year on the board, where she currently serves as Treasurer. As part of her duties, she chairs the board’s financial committee. She is a single adoptive and foster parent. At one point she was also a kinship parent. She lives in Concord with two daughters and one foster daughter.
 
Donna Greene is the new Vice President of Region 1. She and her family live in Union County. They have been foster parents for a little over a year and are hoping to adopt soon! Donna is an RN and is working to establish a new church congregation and a local foster parent association.
 
Lisa Whitman and her husband of 17 years began foster parenting in December 2000. They live in Leland in Brunswick County and she is one of the representatives of Region 4.
