{"id":1736,"date":"2019-10-01T16:07:30","date_gmt":"2019-10-01T16:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fosteringperspectives.org\/?p=1736"},"modified":"2020-04-17T17:10:48","modified_gmt":"2020-04-17T17:10:48","slug":"starting-a-local-sayso-chapter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fosteringperspectives.org\/?p=1736","title":{"rendered":"Starting a Local SaySo Chapter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">The Mission of SaySo<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nIs to work to improve the substitute care system by educating the community, speaking out about needed changes, and providing support to youth who are or have been in substitute care.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Membership<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Youth and Young Adults<\/strong>: Those who have been in any level of substitute care and are between the ages of 14-24 years of age. (<em>Substitute care=foster care, kinship care, group homes, etc.<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adult Supporters<\/strong>: Any adult who has a vested interest in improving outcomes for youth who have been in substitute care.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Local SaySo Activities<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nExamples include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In-service training for social workers &amp; guardians ad litem (GALs)<\/li>\n<li>Work to remove decals from county cars<\/li>\n<li>Make A Difference Day events such as visiting nursing homes, putting together care packages for homeless shelters, and helping out at animal shelters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">SaySo\u2019s Impact on Policy<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Youth involvement in child and family (CFT) meetings and court hearings<\/li>\n<li>Foster care board payment increase<\/li>\n<li>Normalcy Act<\/li>\n<li>Siblings\u2019 Bill of Rights<\/li>\n<li>TRIP (Transportation Really is Possible)<\/li>\n<li>Foster Care 18-21 Program<\/li>\n<li>Family First Prevention Services Act<\/li>\n<li>Medicaid Expansion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Local Impact of Having a SaySo Chapter<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Empowers youth <\/strong>to <strong>lead<\/strong> and <strong>advocate<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Can assist in <strong>recruitment<\/strong> and <strong>retention<\/strong> of foster and adoptive parents<\/li>\n<li>Capable of providing <strong>training<\/strong> to LINKS programs, GALs, social workers, DSS board members, and other community partners to improve outcomes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Support from SaySo\u2019s Young Adult Leadership Council &amp;
