The following are things caregivers can do during an emergency to increase their ability to stay connected with children and youth:

  • Reassure children and youth that they have a plan to stay safe.
  • Stay calm to show what calm looks and feels like.
  • Share simple information using a calm and steady voice.
  • Organize comforting and distracting activities.
  • Take care of yourself.
