The following are things caregivers can do during an emergency to increase their ability to stay connected with children and youth:
- Reassure children and youth that they have a plan to stay safe.
- Stay calm to show what calm looks and feels like.
- Share simple information using a calm and steady voice.
- Organize comforting and distracting activities.
- Take care of yourself.
